Our history

A pioneer in the Gaspesie region, our firm became one of the region's first law firms in 1957 and has written a rich and exciting history over the years with its distinguished lawyers.

1947

Mr. André Dubé

From 1947 to 1957, Mr. André Dubé practiced alone in New Carlisle. In 1966, he became a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec.

1957

Mr. Jean Arsenault

In 1957, our firm became one of the first law firms when Mr. André Dubé founded with Mr. Jean Arsenault, the firm Dubé and Arsenault, located in New Carlisle. 

1966

Mr. Gérard D.-Levesque

In 1966, Mr. Gérard D.-Levesque became an associate with Mr. Jean Arsenault. From that moment on, the firm was called Levesque and Arsenault.

Mr. Levesque also served as Member of the Provincial Parliament for the riding of Bonaventure from 1956 to 1993. He served as Minister of Justice in 1975.

​

The Route 132 through New Carlisle and Paspébiac is now called "Boulevard Gerard D.-Levesque" in his honor.

Mr. Robert Levesque

In 1974, Mr. Robert Levesque, son of Mr. Gérard D.-Lévesque, joined the firm until 1980, the year he became a crown attorney. Subsequently, he became a judge of the Court of Quebec in 1993.

1972

Mr. Jean-Roch Landry

In 1972, Mr. Jean-Roch Landry became an associate with Mr. Gérard D.-Lévesque. From that moment on, the firm was called Levesque and Landry.

Mr. Jean Arsenault

In 1972, Mr. Jean Arsenault became a judge of the Court of Quebec.

1986

Office construction

In 1986, the office at 100A, Boul. Gérard D. Levesque was built.

1982

Mr. Damien St-Onge

In 1982, Mr. Damien St-Onge joined the firm and became a partner. From that moment on, the firm was called Landry and St-Onge.

1994

Mr. Gérald Maltais

In 1994, Mr. Gérard Maltais joined the firm, which became St-Onge and Maltais until his departure in 1998 to become a crown attorney.

Mr. Jean-Roch Landry

In 1994, Mr. Jean-Roch Landry became a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec.

1997

Mr. William Assels

In 1997, Mr. William Assels joined the firm as an intern, then practiced law here in 1998.

From that moment on, the firm was called St-Onge and Assels.

2020

Mrs. Marjorie Lepage

In 2020, Mrs. Marjorie Lepage joined the firm as a law student. She became a lawyer in 2021, after completing her internship of the Quebec Bar School.

​

In February 2023, Mrs. Marjorie Lepage became a partner and the firm was renamed Assels et Lepage, Lawyers inc.

2019

Mr. Damien St-Onge

On March 8th, 2019, Mr. Damien St-Onge entered the bench as a judge at the Superior Court of Quebec.

Mr. Michaël Leblanc

In 2023, Mr. Michaël Leblanc joined the firm in order to practice law.
